A heritage on a human scale, built in dialogue with the living.
The ARMODY collection was not born of an acquisition plan. It has come together work by work, over the years, carried by a simple conviction: a cultural heritage is composed over time, in dialogue with those who create — not according to the logic of the market. Today it brings together paintings, silkscreen prints and sculptures — almost always by living artists — and continues to grow with every encounter that matters.
Our approach is that of the committed collector: we choose few, we choose for the long term, and every work that has entered the collection has entered it for a precise reason. What guides us is not a theme, a school or a market rating — it is the conviction that a work commands attention, that a body of work deserves support, and that an artist should be accompanied over time.
Every work enters the collection through an encounter. Three kinds of encounters, which structure our approach.
Some of the artists we welcome in residency naturally join the collection. These are works born on site, in the time we offered them — works it would have been absurd to let go without keeping a trace.
Other works were first shown to us, carried by artists we invited to exhibit in our spaces. Some stayed — because they convinced us, because the encounter lasted beyond the opening night.
Finally, the collection grows through studio visits and direct encounters with artists, in the place where they work. These acquisitions are often the most intimate: they are born of a dialogue, sometimes of a commission, always of a shared certainty.
ARMODY is progressively building a collection of artworks — paintings, silkscreen prints, sculptures — brought together under one name: the French Theory Art Collection. Born within the walls of the pilot hotel, through residencies and exhibitions, it is the cultural extension of the French Theory brand: the works it gathers live in the places, feed their cultural programme and carry their aesthetic beyond hospitality.
We mainly acquire works by living artists, with a deliberate conviction: supporting contemporary creation means recognising that a cultural heritage is built on a human scale, in dialogue with those creating today.
We regularly welcome artists in residency and organise exhibitions that bring their work into dialogue with a wider audience. For us, the two formats are inseparable: the residency gives time to creation, the exhibition ensures its recognition and its circulation.
A residency, as we conceive it, is not a production stay under constraint. It is time offered to the artist — to search, to experiment, to let things emerge. We provide a place, means, and an attentive ear. The rest belongs to the artist we welcome. In painting, we have thus accompanied Louis Wallecan, Enfant Précoce, Nochapiq and Milan Sanka — four artists with singular gestures and distinct worlds, united by one same standard.
Exhibitions extend this approach by opening outward. We present the artists we welcome in residency, but also other bodies of work that convince us and deserve to be seen. Morenna Tamborino, Alice Meteignier, Pablo Grand Mourcel, Dubontemps — each of these artists has encountered our walls, and each of these encounters has made sense in building a dialogue with contemporary creation.
We seek neither demonstration nor volume. We choose few and commit fully — because supporting creation means, first of all, accepting to take the time it demands.
An ensemble under construction, where every name carries a story of its own. Some were welcomed in residency, others exhibited in our spaces, others still were met in their studios. All have in common that they convinced us through the strength of their work — and the constancy of a gaze we seek to support.
Part of the collection is available for acquisition, on request. We are glad to work with private collectors, institutions or companies wishing to bring a work from the collection into their own cultural heritage — provided the approach is carried by a clear intention and gives the work a setting worthy of it.
Every sale is preceded by a dialogue, accompanied by full documentation and, whenever possible, by a moment shared with the artist.
